Warning: Long, pointy knives may be hazardous to your health- the British Medical Journal. ... The authors of the editorial argued that the pointed tip is a vestigial feature from less mannered ages, when people used it to spear meat. They said that they interviewed 10 chefs in England, and that "none gave a reason why the long, pointed knife was essential," though short, pointed knives were useful.
methinks sometimes they have too much time.
scientists have also previously found out that *gasp* monkeys, given a period of time, are unable to type out a coherent sentence, thereby demolishing the theory that a group of primates, if armed with typewriters and an infinite amount of time, can type out the entire works of shakespeare! what a brilliant find! *cue mass rolling of eyes*
it reminds me of my physics class in jc, the time when i saw the question "... calculate the number of electrons in one drop of rain" and i swore to myself not to go into engineering so that i wouldn't have to do physics.
maybe someday all this research will come in handy. maybe one day when i'm a housewife, i'll whip out my trusty calculator to find out the number of pesky electrons landing on my laundry. maybe one day we'll have foam surroundings cos hey, people can get hurt when they fall you know? so dangerous. can get concussion! so of course, knives cannot be long and pointy! must be blunt and round, v cute too! and while we're on the topic, why have knives at all? just use fingers and tear, or throw them on the ground to smash it. oh wait it'd bounce off the foam floors.. nvm i'm sure those nice scientists will think of a way to get around this dastardly problem.
read mystery tan lines' ah beng version, "Rebate of the Sip". Bloody hilarious! excerpt:
So Kopi One (is it because he like to go to coffeeshop and shout "Kopi one, uncle! Kay Kopi ok? Kopi one kay kopi!" - actually he can order Kopi kao but Gwai Lang Gone neber teach properly- blame MOE). So he fly with Aneekin (in hokkien mean "Wah, so fast" coz he grow up so fast- win the girl growing up speed). So the two jedi fly and fight the lobot to rescue some Minister Xi Dee Us. Actually now he is call Chancellor coz now got chance.
some people simply deserve the look. for those who haven't seen it yet (good for you!) i'd have posted a picture of the look but that would diminish its power. the look is characterised by slightly raised eyebrows, a disdainful smirk and and narrowed eyes, as well as a "what else can go wrong in this world" sigh. it is reserved for bearers of stupid news, among other things which i'd rather not recall now. memorable recipients of the look include the following gems (note: in no particular order, because they are all so worthy it's hard to rank them):
1. "you know.. that scene in black hawk down, where the guy is firing a gun.." 2. "hey this boy in the movie looks familiar.. he was in some other movie.. he's someone's son." 3. "pineapple fried rice? oh, it's fried rice fried with pineapple!" 4. "i don't like the food at baker's inn.. it's all.. baked."
like i always say, big walk day= great weather. doesn't matter if the past few days were raining men (ooh~ but nope) or s'pore was on the verge of having a hurricane, any day that the new paper chooses as big walk day will ensure a sunny, fruitful day for beached whales and other assorted pasty complexions. went with family to ecp. if you were terrorized by these two yesterday between 1130 and 1330h, what can i say.. you should've been more considerate! stop hogging the damn path! speed demons need room to breathe =P
i don't mean to sound like a pretentious prick, but sometimes it feels good to type out words. jumbles of letters and commas and full stops, coming together to form a temporary respite from all that is. enjoy, or don't.
a crane appears a dot in the heavens approaches faster lands softly on the grass
it ponders. sensing none, it sips the pool of clear water, in which translucent fish reside
others too, approach drawn by the keen of life nightingale, squirrel, doe and hare
a grey stallion, but gentle lovely mane gleaming as they thirst and are quenched
the hyacinth blooms, and fades water rippling catching the sunlight willows sway, and rustle
each one departs one by one to each's secret path divided, they fall
warning: the following post contains prodigious usage of exclamation marks, caps and other manifestations of awestruck-ness, if there is such a word. sorry, can't help it!
just watched star wars ep III.. bloody nice!!! mr lucas finally did it! even though everyone knows the story (anakin becomes asthmatic, obi-wan lives and padme's sole contribution is to provide the famous twins) , every second of the film was a blast. btw do look out for the music score, i love how they incorporated themes from the 2nd trilogy into this ep.. all is forgiven in my opinion, all the horror abt jar jar binks, the rumoured casting of the backstreet boys, the cliched dialogues ("you are so.. beautiful." utters a stoned skywalker) and the mood was absolutely festive in the theatre; everyone clapped and cheered when the lucasfilm logo appeared. r2d2 was hilariously spunky, and surprises up his sleeve, yoda has.
there was even a post-movie party, filled with free beer and more importantly, people in costume! though i must say they were quite a let down. i mean, "darth vader" was short, pudgy and wearing a long-sleeved black shirt with black pants. with office belt. and he was patiently waiting in line to enter the party area, even though he's supposed to be in there 1st. i mean, hey! talk about being anti-climatic. although he was bald too lah. aiyoh. at least swagger a bit, can? russel crowe's short too, but at least he has presence.
the only ones who looked good were the imperial guards, if that's what they're called. the guys who look like those majestic heavy red theatre curtains. couple of "jedis" walking aimlessly around too.. some attempted to re-enact scenes, to amusing effect. the host tried his best. "and here anakin and obi-wan are fighting! they have fallen to the ground but are still fighting!" etc etc.
in summary, an amazing movie. prob gonna watch again =P three cheers to mr lucas!
they say that men can never understand women. i say, sometimes even women don't understand women. we blow hot and cold, even when it's not that time. ok maybe i won't do a generalisation here.. you never know now, with bloggers being sued/ misquoted left and right over what used to be simple, unbridled ranting. anyway.
to want to be loved truly, madly, deeply, and yet flee at the approach. to seek maturity and stability, yet desire youthful irreverence. solitude, but also a shoulder to lean on. to have your attention, and yet be cool just enough so no irreversible trauma should be suffered if the inevitable occurs. to feel safe and comforted by your presence, yet be able to recreate that same feeling without you.
maybe all we need are disposable companions to live out our moments with. just like mobile phone plans- suck all the good stuff out of one plan, or take advantage of a few different plans, each with different advantages. do relationships mimic societal views? or society relationships? it makes me sick just to think about this. all this knowledge, and all we do is refine ways to traumatise each other. i don't think pure, true, uncontaminated, innocent and sweet love exists for long anymore, if at all.
on my way to meet lc on mon, happened to bump into my feline friend. we're wearing clothes of the same colour! i could've exchanged my skirt for her jeans, but i don't think we would've survived the blinding vision. and no, i don't know what the 2 guys in the middle are attempting either..
this is veen's thai culture class or something over in nus. she kept complaining to me about endless drawing of lotus flowers and what not.. and behold! my cuz's in the same class! probably drawing those same damned flowers! all together now, it's a small world after all..
man i haven't blogged for how long? time to catch up, hols are here now. anyone knows of temp jobs, pleeaase intro to me k? yeah yeah tioman pix will be up as soon as people fwd them to moi.. oh yep i've increased the font size, after a certain squinty-eyed member of the Felidae family voiced its dissatisfaction.. you know you can increase the font size in IE right? but anyway:
alright maybe i do need to get shorter heels.. i finally confronted my latest addition (obtained for CNY after many many months of contemplation wrt to my ahem, less stucturally endowed companions) with a ruler. that's a 9.5cm you're looking at. which equals to 3.74", according to sciencemadesimple.net, which equals to a total height of about 182cm. hmm. so that's why women were staring daggers at me while the guys gawked.. hey it's not MY fault you like flatties. sometimes people need to feel noticed.
bro came back from taiwan with (yes i swear) sweet and sour pork- flavoured Lay's potato chips. the verdict? smells god-awful, tastes like they didn't know what to do with the leftover seasoning from bbq and sour cream and onion. what's next? chou4 dou4 fu3 flavoured chips?
zionites chalet: don't be fooled by the assortment of sweet, innocent looking-faces here.. this is one seriously dirty-minded bunch you don't want to play truth or dare with. refer to stephy's blogfor more pix.. caution: highly suggestive photos!
i'm back from tioman! snorkelling is great fun.. i'm still hydrophobic, but the marine sights were distracting enough for me to wander about without panicking (too much) in the choppy waters.. i think we need to go buy 4D, it rained on all the days we were there, and everyone knows how rare rain is in tioman, esp when it's NOT the monsoon season *rolls eyes* we actually burnt paper tortoises in an effort to appease someone up there, but it didn't work for too long.. it's really great to go out on a trip with old friends, glad that we've stayed together after 4 years (has it been that long already?!) can't really rave about the trip, you have to go there to experience it =P
notice: discovery tours travel agency sucks. they screwed up our return ferry and coach, big time. won't go into details here, but let's just say that the ferry trip back was rather unnerving.
hehe never knew i could be so glad to return home.. i miss everyone! muaks!! will post more pix up soon enough.
