more trivia abt SBS (the school, not the public transport service):
it's been 2 yrs in uni, and the lecturers are getting more and more interesting, the better we get to know them. for starters, this sem we have a sammo hung- lookalike who carries a full-size yellow bamboo stick to lectures to use as a pointer. don't ask why he doesn't use a laser pointer, or the mouse cursor. he looks too hilarious with the stick for us to suggest the mouse i guess.
and then there's the adorable org chem brit prof, with his irresistable evil (yet still cute) snicker. it goes like "hnggh", with slight contraction of nasal cavity muscles. there's also the other org chem prof, the indian one.. i'm not being racist or anything, but after his lectures i always have a terrible craving for murtabak. think it's his thick bollywood accent.
and this sem i meet the most interesting one yet (btw, org brit remarked that there are at least 10 diff meanings to the word "interesting", dep on the tone and occasion used). mr spanish guy looks like one of those mafia henchmen skulking ard in the background, and he sends us the darnest emails. methinks he's bored and lonely, but i'm not complaining:

student who does not take english as 1st language:
    Dir Sir
Sorry u mean 12am or 12 pm?if 12 am does that mean we have to hand it in on wednesdays before eveving. Thanks you very much

    hapless prof:
    Dear all,
Apologies for the confusion. I should not have used 12 am (or 12 pm) as they are both meaningless. As you may know, the expressions pm and am come from Latin. "Ante" means before and "post" means after. Meri-diem means half (meri) of the day (diem), ie, 12 noon. Therefore 12 am or 12 pm is a totally ambiguous expression. For example, 12 midnight is both 12 h before and 12 after the meridiem (12 noon), so is both 12 am and 12 pm, whereas 12 noon is neither 12 am or 12 am, it is just "m".

I guess what I meant is 11.59 am. Some Latin for you today

so there. told u i had adorable lecturers. of course they aren't so adorable when it comes to exams, but at least modules become a little more interesting.
